20th and 21st February Latvian Ornithological Society selebrate 25 annyversary!

18 January 2010, Malta & Brussels - BirdLife International [1] Partners in Europe today launched an international campaign aimed at Maltese Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi demanding the proper enforcement of the EU Birds Directive, which has been largely ignored since EU membership.

BirdLife Malta President Joseph Mangion concluded: "Malta has shown it cannot meet the conditions of a derogation for another spring hunting season. Every time the government opens the season for limited hunting, it opens the door for hunters to kill protected species. Action has long been overdue. It is now time for the politics to come in line with the law."

Course of lectures for beginner birdwatcers.

Place: Pape Ornithological Resaerch center.

Dates: 9-11 Oktober.

Participation fee: Ls 18,00 / Ls 15,00 (for members of LOB).

On 3rd and 4th October Latvian Ornithological Society will organise 15 birdwatching events in co-operation with administrations of Gauja national park, Kemeri national park, Teici nature reserve, Slitere national park and North Vidzeme biosphere reserve.

The sixth Latvian competition of birdwatchers - "Battle of Towers 2009" was completed at the evening of May 24

The competition was attended by eight teams - altogether 30 participants.
